Go Go Dynamo – Yarn Ideas

Fall is time for Stephen West’s yearly Mystery Knit Along (MKAL)! This year’s installation is called Go, Go, Dynamo, and it calls for two colors of Fingering Yarn, 200g (2 skeins) each. Optionally you can also add 25g of Mohari yarn for the “Mohair Dare”.

Below I’ve put together some yarn combinations that I think would work great for this year’s MKAL!

The most important things to know about the Go Go Dynamo MKAL:

  • It is a mystery knitting pattern, and a new part of the pattern will be released every Thursday in October
  • The finished object will be a shawl
  • Steven recommends yarn in two contrasting colors
  • Total yarn amounts needed: 400g (200g per color)
  • You need to buy the pattern separately from Wesknits, see: Go Go Dynamo: Westknits MKAL 2024 (Ravelry)

Neutral Autumn Colors

This is the perfect combo for those who prefer a warmer, neutral palette. Essence of Halloween is a warm white with a few orange and green speckles; Levitation Libation is a dark, warm brown.

Mohair Dare recommendation: Plentiful Pumpkin Potion

Bright and Colorful

The colorfully speckled Firecrab shines here against the soft backdrop of Pebbles.

Mohair Dare recommendation: Sphinx

Moody Fall

Haunted Mansion is a silver grey with soft speckles of red, orange, and brown. Barrowland Ballroom is colorful yet moody, with tones of orange-brown, green, and beige

Mohair Dare recommendation: Portree Harbour

Jewel-Tones

Puffskein’s bright pink and Cornish Pixie’s intense indigo blue team up to form a bright and powerful combo.

Mohair Dare recommendation: Sphinx

Yak

Terracotta is a warm orange with brown hues, dyed on the naturally grey Yak Sock base. Wild Yak is undyed and gets its grey color from the Yak fibers.

Greens and Blues

Another duo of mythical beasts, Occamy and Kelpie are perfect for those who love greens and blues.

Mohair Dare recommendation: Kelpie

Wild Stream and Rocks

Mohair Dare recommendation: Feel the Breeze
